What is chronic acne?
Many of our patients have chronic acne, a persistent and particularly difficult-to-treat form of acne. Many of our patients can identify with some of the items on the following list.
1. Acne started over 5 years ago
2. You feel like you have tried “every product out there”
3. You have been to a number of skin specialists over the years, hoping to find an answer, but your acne persists
4. Your dermatology provider has tried a number of different medications over the years, none of which worked long-term
5. You feel like your previous dermatology provider was choosing treatments randomly. “Well maybe this will work.” “Let’s try this one”
At Bellevue Acne Clinic, we specialize in treating this persistent and difficult-to-treat condition. Our patients come to us because they seek the best care for their chronic acne.
You may have an even more difficult-to-treat subtype of chronic acne. This subtype of chronic acne tends to only occur in women. You may have this subtype of chronic acne if you meet ALL of these 5 criteria.
1. You did not have significant acne as a teenager. Most of your acne started after age 20
2. Although acne is “supposed” to be a disorder of oily skin, your skin is mostly dry
3. Your skin can be simultaneously oily and dry (but mostly dry)
4. Your acne is mostly located on your low face (chin, jawline, around the mouth)
5. Your acne doesn’t fluctuate with your menstrual period as much as you think it “should” (given what most people say about adult acne).
If you read the previous list and felt like we were speaking directly to you, you may have chronic acne. Come to see us today! Call 425.835.3394 to schedule your new patient exam.
